A relatively recent development in areas of conflict has been the use of sand-, rock- or soil-filled cellular structures which are lightweight and compact for transporting to remote locations. They are unpacked, positioned and filled rapidly. They provide either temporary or permanent protection against blast and projectiles for combatants, accommodation, equipment and vehicles. The individual units can be stacked one above the other, like building blocks, to form intricate emplacements.
The DefenCell family of products are fabricated from specialist textiles to form a honeycomb layout which packs down to a small volume. There are no shrapnel-forming components and they are radar friendly.
The smallest product, the DefenCell Ranger, provides the same cover as 40 sand bags yet is more stable and faster to deploy.
